Hello, is this planet Earth?: My View from the International Space Station (Official Tim Peake Book)
Available in both Kindle and Hardback from Amazon here, Hello, is this planet Earth? is the number one Sunday Times bestseller and first book written by British astronaut Tim Peake.
Superb Full Colour Photographs
The book is a mesmerising collection of Tim’s superb full colour photographs taken whilst he was in space on board the ISS (International Space Station) within which he could see over 1000km in any direction! The book includes over 150 wondrous photographs (many of which have never been seen before) and the book also includes commentary from Tim, which helps to provide a bit of context and insight into the photographs.
Historic And Captivating Mission
Hello, is this planet Earth? captures the memorable sights from Tim’s historic and captivating six-month Principia mission. The collection of photographs showcases the sheer beauty of planet earth from a birds-eye view from space, and the book is essentially a beautifully presented time capsule of Tim’s remarkable adventure into space. As a reader, owning the book and seeing the sights that Tim saw, is almost like going on the trip with him! I mean, who doesn’t like to tag along on a little adventure now and then?
Split Into 5 Sections
The introduction to the book is about four pages long and then the rest of the book comprises of the amazing photographs grouped into five sections: Night & Day; Oceans & Rivers; Mountains & Deserts; Towns & cities, and finally; Space & Home.
Suitable For All Ages
The book is suitable for both children and adults alike and Tim’s commentary throughout the book is full of his characteristic charm and warmth. The book provides pictures of breathtaking oceans, mountains, cities illuminated at night, the northern lights and a multitude of other unforgettable aerial photographs. Along with many of the pictures, Tim has included interesting facts to compliment the photographs.
Inspired By A True Event
Hilariously, the book is actually inspired by a true event when Tim Peake famously misdialled a phone number when he was on the space station, trying to call someone back on earth. An unknown woman answered the phone and Tim said, “Hello, is this planet earth?”
During his mission, Tim conducted a multitude of ground-breaking science tests and experiments and he is gradually becoming a well known public figure in Britain. Tim seems to be quite an altruistic person as he has spoken to children live from the ISS, partly in an effort to help inspire and educate about the wonders of space. Also, Tim has very altruistically agreed to donate his share of the proceeds from his book to The Prince’s Trust which is a youth charity that helps young people aged 13 to 30 get into education, jobs and training. He seems to be a genuinely great guy!
Whilst on the space station, Tim was the first person to run the London marathon in space and he also became the first British astronaut to complete a spacewalk. On a funny note, Tim also presented the BRIT Awards live from space in a dinner jacket!
Both Hardback And Kindle Editions Available
Overall, this is a fantastic book and should you choose the Kindle Edition of the book, it should be noted that the book can be read on ‘any device,’ namely phone, tablet or computer. Should you choose to purchase the hardcover of the book, it measures 23.5 x 23.5 x 2cm, the print length is 240 pages and the photos are all of very high quality. The front cover of the book, especially, is beautifully printed with vibrant colours.
In parting, I’ll leave you with a nice poetic quote from the great astronaut himself:
‘It’s impossible to look down on Earth from space and not be mesmerised by the fragile beauty of our planet.’ – Tim Peake
